How to Make Your Home Uplifting on a Budget

Creating a happier life starts at home, literally. There are a few easy and cheap DIY solutions you can try out that will brighten up your home and your mood. Not only this, but DIY and craft projects can also be a fun opportunity to learn new skills. Creative projects can give us a sense of achievement, and are a really good way to make unique pieces that will make our home more ‘uplifting’.

Create a Memo Board

For a really easy and affordable DIY project, create your own memo board. All it takes is; canvas, ribbon, buttons, fabric and a stapler. You can find plenty of tutorials online that demonstrate how to make a memo board, and it can be a really sentimental addition to any room.

Upcycling

Shabby chic is a simple but effective design trend that almost anybody can implement in their home. Wooden furniture can be easily sourced from antique showrooms or car boot sales, and can be repurposed to match the interior of a room. Simply sand the item down and apply a coat of undercoat paint. Once this is dry, paint with the colour you have chosen until covered completely. You can then distress this with more sandpaper for a shabby chic look, or try something else that you have in mind.

You don’t have to spend a fortune to make something unique, whether it is a statement dressing table or a decorated baby stool to use as a cute feature in a nursery. This is a great technique to give a worn out item a whole new lease of life, and it can be used to help a colour scheme flow.

Flower Arrangements

A simple way to make a room instantly look attractive is to add a brightly coloured bunch of flowers in a nice vase, perfect for the dining room table or window ledge. So, why not try out your floristry skills and create some interesting combinations for a more eye-catching look.

Make Your Own Candles

Making your own candles is a lot easier than it sounds! All you need is a bag of wax and a candle wick, which can be bought either online or from a local craft shop. You may also want to buy some candle scent or colour to make your candle more interesting. For a more creative approach, try making candles in unusual containers such as old vintage tea cups. Always make sure that you follow the instructions and be careful when dealing with hot wax.

Sometimes, there is only so much you can do to make your home a more uplifting environment, and if you feel that something more supernatural is effecting your home then you might want to speak to a medium.f Have you had any DIY projects lately that have helped create a happier atmosphere in your home?

Fab ideas. Love love love flowers, they are a fabulous accent to any home – so simple and yet they make such a difference. A feature piece of furniture painted in a key colour can really add style and character to a room without having to re-decorate the whole space. Mirrors are also a good idea, they look beautiful and are a good solution to fill that vast empty wall space and they add extra light to a room.
