How to make the most of your floor space

How’s your floor looking? A little bare perhaps? No worries l have some ideas for you.

make the most of your floor space

Your floor need never be boring again!

There are several ways to make the most of your floor space and they really can add another dimension to a lovely interior if you make it work for your home.

Often neglected floor space offers up numerous possibilities that are practical as well as aesthetic. Let me share a couple of my favourites with you

Floor cushions

Floor cushions are not just for the bohemian amongst us. You can provide additional seating with large floor cushions and you can also use them as gorgeous decorative pieces. I think floor cushions allow a really relaxed vibe to a room and give a lovely informal feel to it. Plus they are easily stored away (unlike other types of seating) until you need them. They can add a lovely pop of colour or dash of pattern to a room too.

Tiles

I adore seeing tiled floors they can be so exciting can’t they?

You are just walking along and happen to glance down and then oh the sheer delight of a tiled floor. I love monochrome and jewelled colour tiles but I also really like to see highly patterned and contrasting tiles too.  These work just as well in a hallway or bathroom as they do in an oriental palace and don’t they just look amazing.

Plants

A large plant on a hallway floor or a landing really can be a great use of floor space and look pretty spectacular too. Plants can perk up an empty corner of a room like nothing else can and add vibrancy and energy to the space. What’s better is that there are so many ways to use them. I love to see luscious and healthy plants on floors.

Rugs

Rugs are a wonderful addition to a plain carpet or to a hardwood or laminate floor UK style. Not only can they inject a complimentary or contrasting colour to the room and jazz it up with patterns they can being a new trend into your room for minimal cost and effort. I think rugs are a great accessory to introduce a non-permanent new vibe. My favourite thing about rug though is the texture they bring to a room, form wool to faux fur, jute to cotton rugs really can help layer a room.  They can help freshen and lighten a room or help cosy it up for the colder months. Rugs are like a coat they can change it all.

Runners

Runners in hallways can also be a great way to jazz up a potentially dull space and create the welcoming entrance you want for your home.

It is really important these don’t slip and are easy to clean or you will be forever ruing the day you put them down!  A beautiful runner can really bring you into a house and make it feel homely and cared for straight away.

I hope you have enjoyed this post on making the most of your floor space. If you have any additional ideas do please share them in the comments below. As always, I love to hear from you.

We have a tiled hallway and I love it. It’s brilliant when it’s wet (as it usually is up North) and it’s really easy to clean. I need a new rug for the living room, it does look a bit bare at times.
